PDSA Code of Conduct
The Philadelphia Dragons Sports Association (PDSA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to be an instructional league that teaches young people good sportsmanship and the skills of baseball, basketball and flag football. To that end, it is imperative for everyone associated with the PDSA – players, coaches, parents, spectators and volunteers – to keep in mind that mission and to act accordingly.
As a player, I will
• Be ready to learn and work cooperatively each day; listen and follow instructions
• Show up to practices, games, lessons, and other events ready to go and properly attired
• Be prepared and bring all my equipment, uniforms, and drinks so I am ready for each game/practice
• Demonstrate respect for coaches, instructors, teammates, opponents and officials and for the sport itself
• Put forth my best effort, take responsibility and display a positive attitude
As a parent/spectator/volunteer, I will
• Support the program, the coaches, the officials and my child’s efforts
• Bring my child on time to practices, games and other events
• Make sure my child is prepared, and bring all equipment, uniforms and drinks so my child is ready for each game/practice
• Take the long view of my child’s development and not focus on winning or losing or on playing time or position
• Respect decisions of officials and model good sportsmanship
• Demonstrate respect for coaches, instructors, teammates, opponents, other spectators, officials and for the sport itself
• NOT engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee
• Never go on the court or playing field during practices and games unless a coach specifically makes such a request
• Encourage my child(ren) to uphold the Code of Conduct as it relates to their participation in the PDSA
• Communicate the Code of Conduct and its expectations to other spectators who I invite to attend a PDSA event
As a coach, I will
• Teach the fundamentals and meet each player where they are in their development • Provide a safe, positive and enriching environment
• Provide an environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and refrain from their use at and prior to all youth sports events
• Establish and maintain high expectations for participation in the PDSA
• Respect the integrity of the game and follow the rules
• Treat each player as an individual and treat them all with respect and dignity
• Prepare athletes to be successful going forward in sports and in other phases of their lives
• Act as a role model and display respect, self control and good sportsmanship toward other coaches, instructors, teammates, opponents, spectators and officials
• NOT engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, umpire or official or any other attendee
• Use best efforts to equitably distribute playing time and opportunities, taking into account the abilities, strengths and desires of each player • Provide clear and consistent communication to players and their families
• Maintain the confidentiality of personal/sensitive information about players and their families
Anyone associated with PDSA should promptly report violations of the Code of Conduct by players, parents, spectators, volunteers or coaches to the league Commissioner(s) and Board of Directors ([email protected]).
I understand that the PDSA may impose discipline – up to and including suspension or expulsion from the PDSA – or any other action, in its sole discretion, against someone who violates the Code of Conduct or who it otherwise determines is engaging in conduct detrimental to the best interest of PDSA.
